David Luiz has played under some truly amazing managers during his career.

Indeed, through his time at Arsenal, Chelsea, PSG and with Brazil, the centre-back has played under some of the best coaches in Europe.

At Arsenal, David Luiz played under both Mikel Arteta and Unai Emery, and speaking to CBS, he has been asked to pick between his two former managers.

Luiz took some time to think about which manager he preferred before ultimately settling on an answer.

David Luiz chooses between Mikel Arteta and Unai Emery

Luiz was asked to choose between his two former Arsenal managers.

The defender thought about his answer, claiming that while Unai Emery has won more trophies than Arteta, he considers the current Arsenal boss to be the better gaffer.

“We’re going up first with Mikel Arteta vs Unai Emery,” Luiz was asked..

“No way man, I think by the titles it would have to be Unai, but with the offensive strategy it has to be Arteta. At the moment, now, it has to be Arteta,” Luiz said.

“Arteta or Antonio Conte?” Luiz was asked.

“By the philosophy, it is Arteta,” Luiz said.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal record compared to Unai Emery

Luiz says that Arteta is the better manager than Emery, and, it’s hard to disagree from an Arsenal perspective.

Indeed, Arteta has turned the Gunners from pretenders to contenders over the past five years.

Meanwhile, Unai Emery was sacked after fewer than two seasons at the Emirates owing to poor performances.

That said, comparing the two managers’ stats does make for interesting reading.

Arteta’s stats for Arsenal are better than Emery’s but there isn’t tons in it.

The current Arsenal manager’s win percentage is only a few points higher than his predecessor’s, and he’s also had more than £1bn to spend in the transfer market.

The reality is that both Emery and Arteta are top managers, who deserve credit for being a pair of the best in the world.
