David Moyes has defended Arsenal in the wake of recent criticisms about their set-piece tactics and believes Mikel Arteta’s side could also triumph in Europe.

The Gunners are undefeated in the Champions League and thanks to midweek results, went seven points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Despite this, Mikel Arteta and Arsenal have been pulled apart for their way of playing but according to David Moyes, it’s just not on.

David Moyes tips Arsenal to win the Champions League

It’s quite something to be top of the league and also unbeaten in Europe and yet still coming under fire from pundits and fans.

Still, while fans and pundits can say what they like, experienced Premier League boss David Moyes is having none of it.

“I mean, look, they’ve been brilliant all year, Arsenal, haven’t they really?,” Moyes admitted.

“You know, they’re doing great. They look as if they’re probably one of the favourites to win the Champions League, which is is a great thing to say.

“You’re in the top one or two teams in Europe. They’ve been leading the Premier League nearly from the start. Nobody’s really looked as if they’ve been catching them and yeah, Man City are having a good go at it, but let’s be fair, you know, I don’t think anybody would have expected them to to sort of walk off with it and nobody challenge them at all.

“So, I have to say I think Mikel’s done a brilliant job and I do hear quite a lot of criticism of Arsenal quite often. You know, when you’re in football and you actually know what happens and how it works, they are doing amazing to be leading the league and being out there. So, we’ve got a big we’ve got a tough game, but hopefully our away record might stand up when it gets to gets to Arsenal in a couple of weeks time.”

Mikel Arteta’s record vs David Moyes as managers

Given Mikel Arteta was once under the stewardship of Moyes, it’s quite surprising to see Arteta is the man who comes out on top in terms of managerial duels.

In the 12 games they’ve met as managers, Arteta has won seven of them, with three draws and Moyes winning just the two times.

Interestingly though, Moyes got one of those wins as recently as 2023 when his West Ham side went to The Emirates and conquered the Gunners 2-0. Still, Arsenal hammered West Ham in the follow up meeting, stuck six past them at the Olympic Stadium.

With the two teams set to clash in a few weeks’ time, it would be quite the story if it was Moyes who dented Arsenal’s title hopes.
