Mikel Arteta is here to stay at Arsenal, having signed a brand new contract with the club until the summer of 2027.

The manager has impressed since replacing Unai Emery back in 2019, guiding the Gunners from mid-table limbo into the conversation for some of the biggest trophies in the world.

This season, Arsenal will be aiming to win the Premier League and the Champions League alongside the two domestic trophies – but the long-term aim is to be competing for those every year.

Plenty of considerable challenges stand in the way of Arteta and his squad achieving that, with Pep Guardiola and Manchester City standing front and centre of that.

The future still looks bright at the Emirates Stadium, regardless of those challenges, which will certainly annoy other Premier League sides.

David Ornstein discusses Mikel Arteta’s new Arsenal contract

When discussing Arteta’s new contract at Arsenal, journalist David Ornstein claimed that it will be a decision that rather upsets some of their Premier League rivals.

“It [Arteta’s new contract] was a delight to Arsenal fans, a boost before the North London Derby after a couple of tough weeks over the international break and post-Brighton,” Ornstein said on The Athletic FC podcast.

“He’s at Arsenal to stay, he seems enthusiastic about it, the rival fans and clubs might not be so happy because Arsenal under his tenure have become a force to be reckoned with and I suspect that’s going to continue.

“And crucially, sorry last point, he’s been at the heart of this rejuvenation of the Arsenal fanbase, it’s a completely different atmosphere at Arsenal now – home matches, away matches, the noise, the support, the happiness, the positivity that we were so lacking for much of the Kroenke’s ownership…”

That will certainly be the case for rival supporters, who may look on in envy as they see the project at Arsenal reach a point where they can be competitive at the top.

Arteta now has a good record against every team in the league – though he is yet to face Ipswich Town in the division – which he will be looking to extend further.

Mikel Arteta must start winning trophies at Arsenal

While there is plenty of touching sentiment surrounding Arteta and his time as Arsenal boss so far, the time is here to start delivering.

It is almost certainly tough to beat Manchester City to the Premier League title, but they are far from invincible at the moment – showing a defensive vulnerability simply not there for the Gunners.

There’s the roulette wheel of the Champions League up for grabs, while both domestic trophies are on offer too.

While the journey is there to be enjoyed, and every Arsenal fans has firmly enjoyed the ride so far, there is a time to deliver.

Recent transfer business backs this up, signing players who are ready to win now over promising youngsters to build for the future.

While the competitive nature of Arsenal will annoy their rivals, the only true way to annoy them will be to win silverware.
