David Ornstein has claimed that Inter Milan star Nicolo Barella is one of the players Arsenal admire ahead of the January transfer window.

The Gunners are in a fantastic position right now. We are on top of the Premier League table and have won our Champions League group as well. That puts us in a really strong position, and a top-quality addition in January could make a big difference. Ornstein says Arsenal like Barella.

David Ornstein says Arsenal like Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella

Arsenal are quite light in the middle of the park right now.

Declan Rice is our undisputed starter in his preferred number six position, while Jorginho and Mohamed Elneny are currently filling the roles of being the Englishman’s backups.

Thomas Partey is good enough to start, but the Ghana international has been injured for most of this season, and he is likely to go away on international duty to take part in the African Cup of Nations next month if he recovers. He has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia too.

Arsenal could do with another first-team central midfielder in the January transfer window, and along with the likes of Martin Zubimendi, Ruben Neves and Douglas Luiz, David Ornstein says the Gunners like Inter Milan star Nicolo Barella.

However, there has been no movement on that front yet.

Ornstein wrote in his Q&A on The Athletic: “I think Arsenal would like to add a midfielder at some point but there would need to be a departure and right now it doesn’t seem anything is developing on the likes of Jorginho, Partey or Smith Rowe.

“We know they like Zubimendi, Barella, Neto and others but again I don’t know of any movement of that. Neves is staying in Saudi, I can’t see Villa letting Luiz go and to my knowledge, Arsenal were not seriously looking at either for this window anyway.”

Jurgen Klopp loves Barella

Inter Milan star Nicolo Barella is one of the best midfielders in the Serie A, and that has been the case for a few years now.

The Italian is a terrific footballer. He helped Inter win the Scudetto in the 2020/21 campaign and played a big part in pushing them to the Champions League final last season.

Barella has a number of admirers across the globe, and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is one of them. Ahead of a game between the Reds and Inter Milan in the Champions League last year, the German raved about him.

Klopp said: “He’s a really good player, a really good player and I like him a lot. He has all the things you want from a midfield player: he is aggressive, he is technical, he can run for ages and all these kinds of things. That’s a top-class player.”
