David Ornstein says there’s now another position Ethan Nwaneri could play for Arsenal

Mikel Arteta has never been afraid of shuffling his pack at Arsenal and using players in different positions.

Indeed, Mikel Arteta has changed a few of his key players’ positions over the years.

Bukayo Saka migrated from left-back to right wing under Arteta, while Myles Lewis-Skelly moved from midfield to left-back under the Arsenal boss.

On top of that Kai Havertz arrived at Arsenal as a midfielder, but he’s now become a striker.

Speaking on The Sports Agents Podcast, David Ornstein has been discussing Ethan Nwaneri’s situation at Arsenal.

Nwaneri played much of last season on the right wing, but Nwaneri has been earmarked to play centrally.

Fans want to see Nwaneri as a number 10, while there has been talk that Nwaneri could play up front.

However, according to Ornstein, there’s now another position Nwaneri could play for Arsenal.

Ethan Nwaneri could play as a number eight

According to Ornstein, Nwaneri is now seen as someone who could potentially also play as a number eight.

The journalist says that Arsenal now see Nwaneri as a central player rather than a right-sided player, perhaps alluding to the fact Noni Madueke has arrived to fill that gap.

“I think it (a move for Eberechi Eze) was being looked at when there was a possibility of Ethan Nwaneri the young talent leaving because he was into the last year of his contract because Arsenal now see him in the 8 to 10 role as opposed to the right side where he played last season,” Ornstein said.

Ethan Nwaneri’s stats in different positions

Ethan Nwaneri may only be a young player, but he has played in a lot of different positions in his time.

Indeed, for both the Arsenal youth teams and the senior side, Nwaneri has featured in numerous different roles.

Interestingly, Nwaneri has seemingly never played as a deeper central midfield player, but he does have plenty of experience playing as a number 10.

Nwaneri likely won’t get much action as number eight. After all, Declan Rice, Mikel Merino, Kai Havertz and Myles Lewis-Skelly are all more experienced options in that role, but this is another string to Nwaneri’s bow that makes him even more valuable as a player.
