Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is one of the best managers in world football.
The Spaniard has been at the helm at the Emirates for a little over five years now. He took over a club that was in disarray and has transformed them into serious title contenders.
However, despite the fantastic work he has done, a small yet loud section of the fan base called for him to be sacked recently, after the defeats to Newcastle and Manchester United in the cups.
David Ornstein has now revealed what the feeling is about Arteta within the club.
What Arsenal’s owners think about Mikel Arteta’s future
Arteta’s record at Arsenal is not bad at all.
Yes, one FA Cup and two Community Shields are all he has won in terms of silverware, but the progression of the club over the last few years has been sensational.
Arteta even has the best win percentage among all permanent Arsenal managers in the Premier League over the years, including the great Arsene Wenger.
| Games | Wins | Draws | Losses | Win % | |
| Mikel Arteta at Arsenal | 263 | 159 | 42 | 62 | 60.4 |
That is one of the many reasons why the Spaniard has the full support of Arsenal’s owners and the board.
Despite the noise coming from outside, the decision-makers of the club haven’t even considered parting ways with Arteta – not now and not even a few years ago when performances were significantly worse.
That’s according to Ornstein, who has also claimed that if Arsenal sacked Arteta, he would be snapped up ‘within seconds’ by one of the biggest clubs in the world.
He said on The Highbury Squad: “Without meaning to sound too harsh, it doesn’t matter what we as the public, the media, the fan base think necessarily. We’d like to feel that our thoughts are counted, but it’s what the ownership of any club, and in this case the Kroenkes, the board of directors feel.
“Even when Mikel Arteta was under external pressure at the beginning – do you remember when he turned it around with wins I think it was against Norwich and Burnley and West Brom in the snow and the north London Derby? – there was no internal pressure, other than what he puts on himself and the expectation to get results. No scrutiny on his job, that was never in doubt.
“I don’t think there is now. He has just signed a new contract, they’re fully behind him and I think they would like to be long into the future.
“If Mikel Arteta was not the Arsenal manager, he would be snapped up within seconds by one of the biggest clubs. He’s set for a really good career in football management.”
Famous Arsene Wenger quote from 1998 sums things up perfectly
We just can’t believe that some Arsenal fans want Arteta to be sacked.
Yes, the Spaniard has made some mistakes over the years and some of his decisions may well be difficult for us to understand at times.
However, the reason Arsenal are back challenging for trophies now after years of struggles is because of Arteta – the Gunners would still be struggling if it wasn’t for him.
The calls to sack Arteta from some Arsenal fans now remind us of a famous Wenger quote from 1998.
The Gunners drew a game against Middlesbrough just months after winning the Premier League and FA Cup double. That led to criticism from some sections of the fan base.
Reacting to that, Wenger famously said at the time: “If you eat caviar every day, it is difficult to return to sausages.”
