A number of Arsenal players were recently honoured for their stellar performances last season.

As a team, Arsenal were exceptional last season. Mikel Arteta’s side amassed 89 points, and remained in the Premier League title race until the final day of the campaign.

As a result of this tremendous form, five Arsenal players were included in the PFA Team of the Year, and were presented with their trophies at the PFA Awards last night.

The Arsenal quintet included in the Team of the Year was made up of Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, and David Raya.

All five were exceptional last season, with Odegaard perhaps the pick of the bunch. The Norwegian playmaker is the heartbeat of Arteta’s team, and wears the captain’s armband for the North London club. Odegaard won Arsenal’s Player of the Season award last time around.

The former Real Madrid man was deserving of his inclusion in the PFA Team of the Year, and was also nominated for the Players’ Player of the Year award, but lost out to Manchester City’s Phil Foden in that category.

A number of his Arsenal teammates responded to this post, with Reiss Nelson, Rice, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Gabriel all sending red heart emojis.

Raya sent a heart emoji too, along with the word “Capitano.”

Ally McCoist has tipped Odegaard to win the Premier League player of the season award this time around.

Odegaard’s behind the scenes role at Arsenal

Not only is Odegaard a vital figure for the Gunners on the pitch, but he also has an important role to play at the training ground and in the dressing room too.

Odegaard has mentored Ethan Nwaneri, and is clearly trusted by Arteta to play a role in developing the club’s most promising young talents.
