Declan Rice says Arsenal’s latest target is even better at free-kicks than him

Declan Rice produced one of the greatest moments of Arsenal’s recent history with his two sensational free-kicks against Real Madrid last season.

The midfielder had never scored directly from a free-kick before that night, and he has not done so since either. However, those strikes showed that Rice clearly has the technique and confidence to produce magic from set-pieces.

Now, Arsenal are being linked with another player who possesses incredible ability from dead-ball situations – Marcus Rashford.

Interestingly, Rice himself believes the Manchester United forward is even better than him when it comes to free-kicks.

Declan Rice hails Arsenal target Marcus Rashford’s free-kicks as the best

Rashford has scored some stunning free-kicks throughout his career.

At his best, the England international can strike the ball with incredible power and movement, making him one of the most dangerous set-piece takers around.

Arsenal are now being linked with a possible move because Barcelona are reportedly reluctant to trigger their £26 million option to buy him permanently from Manchester United, according to the Daily Mail.

Rice certainly appears to be a huge admirer of Rashford’s ability from dead-ball situations.

When asked by Versus to name the best set-piece taker among the players he has played with, the Arsenal midfielder gave an interesting response.

Rice said: “If it’s on corners, I’m going to have to say myself. But with free-kicks, I’m going to have to say Rashford.

“The way he hits the ball… So good!”

Arsenal should not sign Rashford

There is no doubt that Rashford can be a world-class player on his day. At his peak, he is capable of destroying defences with his pace, dribbling, trickery and finishing ability.

However, Mikel Arteta should still avoid making a move for him this summer.

Rashford is already 28, has struggled badly with consistency throughout his career and is also on enormous wages.

Signing him would feel very similar to Arsenal’s moves for Willian or Raheem Sterling – experienced wide players whose best years were behind them.

That type of transfer carries huge risk, and Arsenal should not make the mistake of going down that road again.
