Dimitar Berbatov has noticed one similarity between Arsenal and Tottenham, it’s worrying

Arsenal are levels above Tottenham, everyone can see that.

The Gunners have always been the more successful side in North London, and even though Spurs fans had something to cheer about for a few years, normality has been restored.

Arsenal finished 23 points ahead of Tottenham in the 2023/24 season after ending the previous campaign 24 points ahead of them.

That proves that the gap between the two sides is significant, but Dimitar Berbatov has still managed to find a similarity between the two North London clubs.

Dimitar Berbatov highlights one similar problem at Arsenal and Tottenham

Berbatov first made his name in England at Tottenham before becoming a star at Manchester United all those years ago.

The Bulgarian won two Premier League titles during his time at Old Trafford, and he knows what it takes to go all the way in the title race.

Arsenal have been challenging for the league crown since the start of the 2022/23 season, and they have narrowly missed out on the title in each of the last two campaigns.

Berbatov has noticed that, and he feels that Arsenal’s inability to get over the line is similar to the struggles Spurs face season after season.

He said on talkSPORT: “I’ll be honest, I like Arteta. Arteta plays football I want to see and watch.

“I like to watch how they play, but at the same time with Arsenal, it’s somewhere similar to Spurs – ‘we’re almost there, but we cannot take it’.

“They’ve had chances in two seasons to win the Premier League, but they cannot take it. Why? I don’t know. Experience, consistency, winning in the right moments… it’s not there for them.”

Berbatov is both right and wrong at the same time

Berbatov has a point, but he’s not entirely right.

Yes, Arsenal have got really close on two occasions but haven’t been able to get over the line. That is a big concern for Mikel Arteta.

The comparison to Tottenham, however, is not entirely accurate. Tottenham have never really gone close to winning the title in recent years.

Even when they finished second in 2016/17, a year after they finished third in a two-horse race, they were seven points behind the eventual champions.

Tottenham are never ‘almost there’ – they’re always far away. But, Berbatov’s point about Arsenal struggling to get over the line is valid and needs to be addressed.
