Arsenal have been drawn against German giants Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, in a tie which will bring back bad memories.
Arsene Wenger’s side endured some tough encounters against Bayern over the years, with several knockout eliminations at the hands of the six-time winners.
Defeats to Bayern range from unlucky narrow knockouts, to humiliating thrashings, and Arsenal fans will want revenge in their first appearance in the quarter-finals since 2010.
Should Arsenal end their curse against Bayern, they will face one of Manchester City or Real Madrid in the semi-finals, in what is an incredibly tough route to Wembley.
Arsenal’s record against Bayern does make for unpleasant reading ahead of the quarter-finals though, but it would be monumental if they can secure a famous victory against Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Arsenal’s Champions League record against Bayern Munich

Arsenal have faced Bayern Munich 12 times in the Champions League, and have registered just three wins against the Germans, with Bayern winning seven of the encounters.
Four of the 12 games came in the group stages, whilst the rest all came in the round of 16, meaning this will be the latest stage in which Arsenal will play Bayern in Champions League history.
Arsenal’s first encounter against Bayern Munich came in the 2000-2001 season in the group stages. Thierry Henry and Nwankwo Kanu scored in a 2-2 draw at Highbury, before Wenger’s team lost 1-0 in Munich.
A round-of-16 exit then followed in 2004-05, with Bayern winning 3-1 at home before Arsenal won the second leg 1-0, in what was a frustratingly close tie.
The two sides would not face each other again until the 2012-13 round of 16. A 3-1 defeat at home was nearly turned around in Munich as Arsenal recorded a 2-0 victory, but went out on away goals despite Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny scoring in a win at the Allianz Arena.
The two would face each other again at the same stage a year later. Arsenal lost 2-0 at home after going down to 10 men following a red card to Wojcieich Szczesny, and drew 1-1 away with Lukas Podolski scoring a screamer.
Arsenal were then drawn against Bayern in the group stages in 2015-16. Arsenal recorded a remarkable 2-0 victory at home to keep their qualification hopes alive, with Giroud and Mesut Ozil scoring, but were beaten 5-1 away in the reverse fixture.
This then led into another round of 16 clash in the following season, and Arsenal were humiliated as they lost 5-1 away, and 5-1 at home, to record a disastrous aggregate score of 10-2.
If they can gain revenge on their old foes in the quarter-finals, it may arguably be the most significant clash of them all given the stage of the competition.
