Myles Lewis-Skelly is one of the Arsenal players fighting for involvement in the club’s Premier League opener against Wolves on Saturday.
Mikel Arteta is likely to name a strong starting XI when Arsenal get their Premier League campaign underway at the Emirates Stadium this weekend.
The manager has almost a full compliment of players to choose. Jurrien Timber’s return to training has provided a boost, and Riccardo Calafiori may well be in line for his competitive debut.
However, there are also a few fringe players, and youngsters from the Hale End academy, who will also be hoping for a runout against the Midlands outfit.
Myles-Lewis Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri both featured heavily for the Gunners in pre-season, and impressed. The 17-year-old duo are two of the most highly rated youngsters on the club’s books, and look ready to take that next step forward.
Arteta promised Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri that they would get game time at senior level if they earn it. The best way for them to do that is by catching the Spanish coach’s eye in training.
In that sense, Lewis-Skelly has already begun putting a strong case forward.

Arsenal recently posted a behind the scenes video to their official YouTube channel, offering fans an insight into the first team’s training session, as Arteta prepares his side to take on Wolves.
Many supporters watching this clip felt that Lewis-Skelly stood out. The England under-18 international’s passing was crisp, he looked assured in possession, and able to physically compete with his far more experienced teammates.
At one stage, Lewis-Skelly was even able to outmuscle Jakub Kiwior and win back possession of the ball.
Fans in the comments section on YouTube were quick to highlight Lewis-Skelly.

Where will Lewis-Skelly play for Arsenal?
Lewis-Skelly has re-trained as a left-back, and spent time playing there in pre-season. However, Arsenal are now well stocked for options in that part of the pitch, with Calafiori and Timber now available, on top of Kiwior, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Takehiro Tomiyasu.
However, the youngster is a midfielder by trade, and with Arteta lighter on options in the middle of the park, that could be where he gets an opportunity to impress.
