Eddie Nketiah sends Arsenal ace supportive 4-word Instagram message after PSV draw

Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah has sent Reiss Nelson a supportive four-word message on Instagram following a 1-1 draw away to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.

Boren came from behind to hold the Gunners to a stalemate in their dead-rubber meeting on Tuesday evening. Nketiah (42’) put Arsenal ahead at the Philips Stadion but Yorbe Vertessen (50’) drew PSV level early in the second half. Yet their tie had no effect on the Group B table.

Arsenal had already secured the top spot and a spot in the Last 16 of the Champions League with their 6-0 thrashing of RC Lens. PSV were also already set to advance as the runners-up regardless of Les Sang et Or‘s result with Sevilla. Boren had the head-to-head edge on Lens.

Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah combined to score in Arsenal’s draw at PSV Eindhoven

So, with Arsenal already ensured of featuring in the knockout stages, Mikel Arteta used their trip to PSV as a chance to rotate his side with Nketiah and Nelson both given rare starts. The pair had respectively only started in 11 and two matches across all competitions this season.

Nelson had additionally only opened the Gunners’ two Carabao Cup ties with each of his six Premier League appearances coming from their bench. The 24-year-old had also played just 383 minutes prior to lining up at the Philips Stadion, where he enjoyed an 89-minute outing.

Nketiah, on the other hand, had played for 1,030 minutes over 21 appearances prior to their draw with PSV. His goal to break the deadlock in the Netherlands was also the 24-year-old’s sixth of the season. It was even also the forward’s first career goal in the Champions League.

The Gunners’ goal at PSV Eindhoven was made at Hale End with Arsenal academy products Nelson and Nketiah combining. Cedric Soares worked the attack in from the wing to Nelson, who cut a ball into Nketiah to shoot with his weaker left foot to the praise of Michael Owen.

It marked the eighth time that Nelson and Nketiah have combined to score a goal at Arsenal or for England across all age levels so far. They have had a total of 75 appearances together in seven age groups since September 2016. Of those, 33 have been in Arsenal’s first-team.
