Arsenal are preparing for a huge summer ahead of them in the transfer market and will do so with a new sporting director.
Arsenal confirmed the appointment of Andrea Berta as the club’s replacement for Edu Gaspar and the Italian is already making his mark at the Emirates Stadium.
Berta is a huge admirer of Viktor Gyokeres and the Swedish international could be set for a switch to Arsenal in the summer with the Gunners desperate for a top centre forward.
Mikel Arteta is impressed with Berta but the new sporting director has already been told by his predecessor that he can expect no easy task walking into such a high profile role.

Edu Gaspar revealed what Andrea Berta can expect in sporting director role
Speaking on Amazon Prime Video’s ‘All or nothing: Arsenal’ documentary series, the former Gunners man Edu revealed what it was really like being the sporting director at the club.
Speaking on episode 4 of the series, Edu stated: “It’s a big big big responsibility. You have to find a player, a process to find the right player, talk to the finance people, talk to legal, talk to Vinai [Venkatesham], talk to Mikel [Arteta], talk to the board.
“You know I become really tired and I lose a little bit of hair. So yeah this is me and I like to really go for it.”
Berta has already planned talks with Bukayo Saka over a new contract at the club and from Edu’s words, there will be plenty of late nights and early mornings for the new sporting director as he adjusts to life in London.
How Berta won over Mikel Arteta
Several sporting director candidates were concerned over Arteta in that the Spaniard would hold too much power at the club but Berta immediately won over the man in charge at the Gunners.
Arteta stated: “What I liked the most immediately was how much he wanted to come to the club, he was really attracted and really excited by that possibility, and then the way he believes he can help us achieve what we want.”

A top class striker like Gyokeres would go a long way to endearing the Arsenal supporters to Berta and the importance of the relationship between manager and sporting director is pivotal in transfer activity.
If the visions of both Arteta and Berta align, it could be an exciting summer ahead for the Gunners as they look to take that next step towards not just competing for but winning major trophies.
