Edwin van der Sar thinks that Manchester City still have a stronger squad than Arsenal, who are still competing in the Champions League.
Arsenal’s squad depth has really improved this season; however, City remain at the top of the Premier League in terms of quality of their squad.
🤔 TRUE or FALSE: If Arsenal sit back against Man City, they will be beaten comfortably…
Pep Guardiola’s squad has always been the strongest in terms of quality in depth, but question marks have been raised over whether they could actually still compete with Arsenal this season.
However, their recent form has blown away any suggestions that they aren’t quite as strong this season, and Van der Sar has been comparing them to Arsenal.
Edwin van der Sar says Manchester City’s squad is better than Arsenal’s
Edwin van der Sar still believes that Manchester City’s squad is better than Arsenal’s and is better equipped for the run-in.
The Gunners are still in the Champions League, which means their squad is going to be really tested over the final few weeks of the season.
City remain in the FA Cup, but might only have a semi-final and final still to play, and their squad could give them the advantage over the North London club.
The former Manchester United goalkeeper says that Arsenal will be happy to still be in the competition, but they need to be able to deal with playing on the weekend and then again in midweek.
Asked whether Arsenal’s involvement in the Champions League could hinder them, Van der Sar told Premier League Productions: “Yeah, like in general you want to play important games, and if you have the experience of dealing with those pressure moments on a Saturday, on a Tuesday, and on a Wednesday and a Saturday again.
If Arsenal could only win one trophy out of the Premier League and the Champions League this season, which one would you pick and why?
William Saliba prefers the Champions League. What about you?
“You need to find that rhythm and, of course, to diversify your squad also a little bit, when he is going to play him, when he gets a chance, and it feels like the stronger squad is probably at City.”
The Gunners face Sporting CP during midweek; meanwhile, City have a clear week to fully focus on facing Mikel Arteta’s team on the weekend.
The North London club must stand up now and prove that they can deal with the pressure of playing both competitions; otherwise, they could see their season quickly unravel.
