According to a report from Tutto Juve, Juventus have rejected an approach from Arsenal for their Italian centre-half Daniele Rugani.
Unai Emery’s side were reportedly keen on signing Rugani before the end of the transfer window on Thursday. The Gunners reportedly offered a loan deal with an option to buy the defender at the end of the deal. However, that was not enough to convince the Old Lady to let go of Rugani in this window.
Club icon Giorgio Chiellini’s injury worries could open up the door for Rugani in Turin despite summer additions of Matthijs de Ligt and Merih Demiral. The report also claims that Maurizio Sarri is a big fan of Rugani which dents Arsenal’s hopes of signing him.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Shkodran Mustafi and Calum Chambers remain as the club’s only available centre-halves at the moment. Rob Holding is slowly getting back to full fitness while Laurent Koscielny’s feud with the club keeps him out of contention.
With very little rumours popping up about alternate targets to Rugani, Emery could end up with no new defenders and the summer transfer window could be deemed as an average one despite the mega-money signing of Nicolas Pepe from Lille and the exciting loan addition of Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid.
