Thomas Tuchel claims Bukayo Saka is unable to train on consecutive days, and England fans are really unhappy he was selected in the first place.
Saka has had another season for Arsenal, who have been plagued by injury and have been playing catch-up since picking up an Achilles injury sustained in March.
AGREE or DISAGREE: Bukayo Saka is NOT a SUPERSTAR at Arsenal?
The Arsenal attacker has been ‘playing through’ pain, according to Tuchel, which begs the question why he was picked in the first place.
Saka is undoubtedly the Three Lions’ best winger, but if he is not fully fit and unable to complete matches, it’s bizarre that a player like Cole Palmer was not selected.
England fans question why Thomas Tuchel selected Bukayo Saka
England fans have been left questioning why Thomas Tuchel selected Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka for his World Cup squad.
The 24-year-old has been unable to train properly for the Three Lions and is having to play catch-up to be ready in time for the first match.
Following Tuchel’s latest comments on Saka, England fans have taken to social media to question the manager’s selection decision.
- “Tuchel is really risking the whole World Cup attack around Saka, who still can’t train consecutive days. Palmer and Foden have been ready…”
- “So, why pick him? He’s been poor this season anyway.”
- “If Saka isn’t fit to play, why was Saka selected over players who were fit and available? Tuchel will be responsible for this if England performs poorly at the World Cup.”
- “Taking Saka to the World Cup was a risk then, because what happens if he aggravates the injury and is completely ruled out? Madueke, who flatters to deceive, will be the main right winger for England. Palmer is out of form, but he really should’ve been there.”
- “What’s the point in taking him? Much rather a fit Palmer or Bowen than a Saka who presumably won’t be able to last 90 minutes.”
Ollie Watkins started at right wing during England’s 1-0 win over New Zealand last Saturday and could do the same again on Wednesday evening against Costa Rica.
Meanwhile, wingers like Phil Foden and Palmer have been left behind, despite being fully fit and ready to start in the first World Cup match.
It would have been almost impossible not to select a player like Saka for the World Cup, but given his struggles due to injury, England fans are fair to question the decision.
