Fabrizio Romano details current Arsenal stance on potential Ivan Toney transfer

Arsenal are well positioned to launch a move to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are keeping tabs on Ivan Toney, with the future of the Brentford forward in doubt.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the reporter said, “Brentford know that the player wants to leave in 2024. We will see if it’s January or summer. Ivan Toney has appointed a new agent because he wants a new experience in a top club.”

“Many clubs have contacted Toney…the Premier League is the priority of the player, Chelsea are well informed on the situation of the player, and also Arsenal are well informed on the conditions of the potential deal.”

Toney is currently serving a ban for betting rule breaches that will last until January 16th, 2024. This means he will be free to play in the second half of the current season, and plenty of clubs are clearly keen to secure his services at that point.

There is no denying the 27-year-old’s quality. The once-capped England man was in fine form for the Bees last season, racking up twenty Premier League strikes, a figure only surpassed by Harry Kane and Erling Haaland.

Toney’s potential impact at Arsenal

It is easy to see why Mikel Arteta would be keen to add the £21,000-a-week attacker to his ranks. Toney would add a new dimension to the Arsenal front line. He has the physicality and aerial prowess to act as a target man, but also possesses the technical quality needed to effectively link up with the likes of Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka.

His arrival at the Emirates Stadium in January would be a major statement of intent from the Gunners, who will be hoping to be in the midst of a genuine title challenge by that stage of the season. However, signing Toney may well be bad news for Eddie Nketiah’s hopes of getting more game time for the north London club.

The Gunners will also face stiff competition for the striker’s services. Brentford will drive a hard bargain, but Toney’s willingness to leave the club should help to facilitate a move, and Arsenal would certainly be an attractive destination given the club could offer him the chance to play Champions League football.
