Arsenal have gone another season without winning any silverware.
The Gunners were expected by many to go all the way in the Premier League this season after finishing second in each of the last two campaigns.
There was serious hope of winning the Champions League as well, but even though Arsenal were the better team against PSG, they were knocked out of the competition.
Many people feel that Arsenal’s lack of a prolific goalscorer is the reason why they have failed to get over the line this season.
Mikel Arteta, however, feels there are other factors.
Mikel Arteta names the two reasons why Arsenal haven’t won anything again
Arsenal have been progressing brilliantly year on year under Arteta.
The Arsenal manager inherited the side when they were destined to finish in the bottom half of the Premier League table. They were so bad under Unai Emery in his second season.
Since then, there has been progress every year. People may say that the Gunners will finish on fewer points this season than they did the last, but reaching the semi-final of the Champions League for the first time in 16 years shows growth.
An argument can be made that more goals from a prolific striker would’ve taken Arsenal further, but Arteta feels there are two other reasons why the season has gone the way it has for his side.
He said in his press conference, as per HaytersTV: “With the league, there has been two main reasons: One is the amount of games and time that we have played with 10 men and then the availability of the squad throughout 38 games is very, very difficult to manage and to have very strong performances consistently.
“We dropped a lot of points. We dropped a lot of points while being ahead as well, which is something that really needs to improve.
“With the Champions League, even with those conditions, because the competition is more segmented, we have managed to perform and be in the position that we are in.
“But maybe as well, we lacked when we had to change the game in certain moments and have that certain freshness, we weren’t able to do that.”
Is Mikel Arteta right?
Every time Arteta tries to say something, people like Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville spin it to convince gullible fans that the Arsenal manager is making excuses.
However, the reality is that Arteta has always spoken facts.
Arsenal have had so many injuries this season. They could field a lineup of outfield players who have missed multiple games this campaign. That is a fact.
As for playing with 10 men, Arsenal have been on the end of some horrific decisions this season.
The red cards to Declan Rice, Leandro Trossard and Myles Lewis-Skelly were all ridiculous, and only the Gunners were handed such decisions – no one else.
That, once again, is a fact.
