Arsenal produced one of the greatest nights in their history by beating Real Madrid 3-0.
This was the Gunners’ second Champions League quarter-final in a row. They lost to Bayern Munich last year, but they looked like a completely different side on Tuesday night against Los Blancos.
Arsenal dominated large parts of the game at the Emirates, and were undoubtedly the better team. Even Jude Bellingham said that Real Madrid were lucky to only lose 3-0 – it could’ve been a lot more.
Declan Rice was the star of the show with two breathtaking free-kicks, but Arsenal legend Thierry Henry was blown away by another player against Real Madrid.
Thierry Henry suggests that Bukayo Saka was the reason why Arsenal beat Real Madrid
Bukayo Saka got his first start at Arsenal since December against Real Madrid.
The Englishman had only made two substitute appearances in the famous red and white following his return from injury, and his aim had always been the big Champions League game.
Saka was declared fit enough to start on Tuesday night, and the Arsenal number seven was absolutely fantastic.
Even the Spanish press raved about Saka, who outclassed David Alaba almost every time he went up against him on the right flank.
The Hale End star also won the two free kicks that Rice scored from, which is why Henry was blown away by his display against the Galacticos.
He said on CBS Sports: “Declan Rice came big on the two free-kicks, but ultimately, for me, Bukayo Saka created everything!
“The two fouls were on him. Every time, taking the ball, running past one, two, three, four players to go inside, to get the free-kicks. But overall, Arsenal played really, really well.”
Bukayo Saka’s stats will explode right after Arsenal do one thing
Saka missed over three months of football due to injury, but his numbers are still very, very good.
The England international has scored 10 goals and provided 14 assists in 27 appearances for the Gunners this season, which is a fantastic record.
Against Real Madrid, Saka should’ve had one or two assists, but his crosses into the box rolled across the face of goal without being met by anyone.
If Arsenal sign an out-and-out centre-forward this summer, Saka’s assists tally will increase significantly, and the Gunners will become even more dangerous in attack.
Viktor Gyokeres has been linked with Arsenal, and we’re sure he would’ve scored against Real Madrid if he was playing on Tuesday night.
