Forget transfer activity, Josh Kroenke did one thing that won Arsenal fans over in 2024

Josh Kroenke has played an increasingly active role in the goings-on at Arsenal Football Club in recent years.

Kroenke Sports and Entertainment haven’t always been the most popular ownership group, particularly during the latter stages of Arsene Wenger’s era and during Unai Emery’s tenure.

However, since appointing more adept people to run the football club in the early 2020s, the Gunners’ trajectory has improved tenfold and support for the Kroenkes amongst the fanbase has grown.

Arsenal spent over £250 million in the transfer window this summer, although this isn’t the only aspect of Josh’s involvement which has endeared him to the North Londoners’ supporters.

What Josh Kroenke did to win over Arsenal fans

Andrea Berta brought eight players to the Emirates over the summer, with each of these deals ratified by Josh and Stan Kroenke.

This level of investment is unprecedented for Arsenal, and thus, the club’s fans are ecstatic that there appears to be a change in the level of ambition in N5.

That said, this commitment to improving the squad isn’t the only thing that has helped change the perception of the Kroenkes.

According to the Athletic, something that went down well amongst the Arsenal faithful was Josh’s insistence that Arsenal won’t play any competitive matches abroad.

There is a growing feeling that Premier League games could take place overseas for commercial reasons, with this already materialising in La Liga.

However, Josh made it clear last year that the Gunners have no plans to play league or cup fixtures outside of the British Isles.

The 45-year-old stressed that he wants to keep the club in the heart of the Islington community, where it has stood since 1913, when Arsenal moved to Highbury.

While fans from across the pond and in other parts of the world might be desperate to see their beloved football team play in their country or region, those within London and N5 will have been delighted by the Kroenkes’ commitment to respecting the roots and origins of the storied club.

The Kroenkes would consider expanding to a multi-club model

One area the Kroenkes are yet to venture into is multi-club models.

The likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United have all benefited from being linked to clubs on the continent, as they’re able to easily move players between the network of clubs under the same ownership.

While there is certainly a sense that multi-club ownership shouldn’t have been something that was allowed to materialise in the first place, there is also potentially a feeling that Arsenal are missing out by not being part of a network of clubs.

According to the Athletic, this is an area the Kroenkes would consider venturing into in the future.

They own the Colorado Rapids in the MLS, but the activity between the Denver-based side and Arsenal has been limited to the trading of Auston Trusty thus far.

The Kroenkes would consider buying a European club if the right opportunity were to present itself.
