Former Arsenal winger Theo Walcott has now given his take on how England will fare in what remains of Euro 2024.
England are still in Euro 2024, but they won’t have won any admirers wither their performances in the tournament so far.
Whilst the Three Lions were able to qualify for the knockout rounds of the competition by topping their group, their efforts on the pitch have fallen far below expectations.
If they are to beat Slovakia on Sunday, there will surely have to be a drastic improvement, as Gareth Southgate’s side have lacked a clinical edge in the final third so far.
Arsenal stars Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice have started all three of England’s matches in Germany so far, but neither has been able to replicate the kind of form they produced so regularly under Mikel Arteta for the Gunners last season.
Rice has come under pressure from the media for the standard of his recent displays. The 25-year-old is a vital presence in the middle of the park for his country, but will need to sharpen up if he is to offer his teammates the presence that they need from him in that part of the pitch.
Arsenal fans feel that Saka has been one of England’s better performers in Germany so far, though that is admittedly a low bar to clear. Even so, the Hale End academy graduate is yet to truly shine.
Former England striker Wayne Rooney now fears that Saka could lose his starting berth amid clamour for Chelsea ace Cole Palmer to come into the team.

Theo Walcott makes England prediction as Euro 2024 knockout rounds approach
Another ex-England international, Theo Walcott, has now shared his thoughts on England’s prospects at Euro 2024.
Speaking on the Up Front with Simon Jordan podcast, the 35-year-old admitted: “I don’t think they [England] will win the European Championship. No, I don’t think they will. I just think it’s really difficult when it comes to home soil, with the Germans particularly, I fancied them even before a ball was kicked.”
In his playing career, Walcott racked up 47 England caps and travelled to multiple major tournaments. He will, of course, be hoping that his prediction proves incorrect and that Southgate’s side can go all the way. Based on current form, though, anyone would fancy Germany to triumph over England.
