Former Chelsea defender Filipe Luis believes Arsenal brought an ‘amazing’ person into their club this year, although it wasn’t one of their new signings.
The Gunners spent £250 million on eight players over the summer, significantly bolstering Mikel Arteta’s squad so that they are equipped to compete on multiple fronts.
The likes of Martin Zubimendi, Viktor Gyokeres and Eberechi Eze all arrived for big money, and this approach is paying dividends so far this term.
Zubimendi has been the most impressive new arrival, slotting into Arteta’s midfield seamlessly, yet Luis has singled out a different figure for praise.

Filipe Luis praises Andrea Berta
Andrea Berta was appointed as Arsenal’s new sporting director back in March, with the Italian replacing Edu Gaspar in the Emirates hot seat.
The former Atletico Madrid man arrived in North London with an impressive pedigree, having overseen the Madrid club’s successful period over the last decade.
He lived up to these expectations by addressing all of the Gunners’ needs in one transfer window, acquiring eight players who have made a significant impact, for around £250 million.
Arsenal fans were raving over Berta in the summer, and they aren’t the only ones who are fond of the football administrator.
Speaking on the Obi One Podcast, ex-Atletico and Chelsea left-back Filipe Luis described Berta as ‘amazing’.
“Arsenal now brought Andrea Berta, the Sporting Director,” Luis said.
“He’s amazing, he’s really good. He knows about players and has signed really good players. And they give everything Arteta needs.”

Andrea Berta can’t be judged yet
The efficient manner in which Berta went about Arsenal’s summer business was certainly impressive.
However, his work cannot be judged until we’ve seen how it impacts the Gunners’ success on the pitch over a protracted period of time.
Arsenal are on course for an excellent season, and the new signings have integrated well. That said, Berta’s job is to build a squad that can sustainably be competitive over several years.
In reality, it won’t be possible to properly assess Berta’s era until it’s come to a close, whenever that may be.
