Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba are both hugely important to Arsenal.

Both centre-backs are entirely trusted by Mikel Arteta, and each has played a huge role in Arsenal’s extraordinary defensive form so far this season.

William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes have been dubbed the best centre-back partnership in the Premier League before, and for good reason.

The duo have forged a fantastic relationship at the back for the Gunners across the last few seasons, and boast complementary qualities.

Saliba’s natural composure, calmness, and pace, are matched by Gabriel’s aggression, fighting spirit, and dominance in the air.

Darren Bent picks Gabriel Magalhaes over William Saliba

Both players are hugely important to Arteta, and are extremely popular figures at the Emirates Stadium.

However, former Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent only found room for one of the pair in his pick for the team of the season so far.

Revealing his selection on talkSPORT, the former England international said: “Two centre-halves. Virgil van Dijk, they have conceded two goals all year, and I have gone Gabriel.

“And the reason why I have gone Gabriel over Saliba is because set plays and the goals, set plays and the goals.”

The Brazilian international has indeed proven himself to be a weapon in the final third this season. Gabriel has already netted twice, scoring against Tottenham Hotspur in a North London derby clash, and against Manchester City in a Premier League encounter at the Etihad Stadium.

Is Arsenal star Gabriel underrated?

Gabriel has been called the most underrated player in the Arsenal squad before.

Certainly, it is true that Saliba attracts plenty of plaudits, and quite rightly so. The Frenchman is a supremely talented defender, and performs with a consistency that is made all the more remarkable by the fact the is still just 23-years-old.

However, Saliba believes that Gabriel is the best centre-back in the Premier League, and the 26-year-old certainly now has a valid claim to that title, having improved hugely over the years he has spent working under Arteta.

The 9-cap Brazil international has cut mistakes out of his game, and can be relied upon to deliver week in, week out.
