Arsenal produced a fine performance to beat Crystal Palace 5-0 at the Emirates Stadium yesterday.

Gabriel Magalhaes opened the scoring with a header from a corner, and forced Dean Henderson into an own goal to put Arsenal 2-0 up by half time.

Leandro Trossard made it three after finishing off a stunning counter attack, before substitute Gabriel Martinelli scored twice in two minutes to make it five in injury time.

Martinelli’s goals, which were assisted by Jorginho and Eddie Nketiah, meant that Arsenal have now had the most goals and assists by substitutes in the Premier League this season, and it also set a new club record in the competition.

Gabriel Martinelli injury time goals set new Arsenal record

Martinelli’s goals came in the 94th and 95th minute as the icing on the cake for Arsenal, and his brace meant that he became the first Arsenal player to score twice in injury time in the Premier League.

No other Arsenal player has managed this in the entire history of the competition, highlighting what a remarkable feat his late strikes were.

Although this season has seen the introduction of new injury time regulations, which adds further time on at the end of games, Martinelli’s goals were in the fourth and fifth minutes of six added on, and his goals were almost a carbon copy of each other as he found the bottom corner with excellent finishes.

There were just 102 seconds between the goals, and Martinelli had turned a good win into a great victory with his excellent impact off the bench.

Is Gabriel Martinelli finding his form?

Martinelli found himself on the bench for the second game in a row after a tough run of form in recent months.

The Brazilian had scored just twice in the Premier League all season before today, but doubled his overall tally in mere moments, and he looked incredibly sharp in front of goal following Arsenal’s mid-season break in Dubai.

Although Trossard also scored, the Belgian had a fairly quiet game overall, and given that Martinelli was outstanding when he came on, it may be time for him to return to the starting lineup for Arsenal’s trip to Nottingham Forest next week.

Martinelli is a rare profile in the squad as a speedy outlet on the wing, and his performance against Palace showed the damage he could do against tired legs, and Arsenal need to capitalise on what could be a confidence boosting performance and make sure he finds himself in more good shooting positions inside the box.
