Gareth Bale believes that, as much as Arsenal despise Tottenham, losing the North London derby if they are relegated would be a disaster.

Whilst Mikel Arteta’s team find themselves seven points clear at the top, Spurs are now just one point above the drop zone.

But Bale has warned them that it would not be for the best if his former club were to be relegated and the Premier League loses the North London derby.

Gareth Bale says Arsenal need the North London derby

Gareth Bale believes that losing the North London derby would be terrible for both Arsenal and the Premier League.

The former Spurs winger was discussing the possibility of them going down, and he responded to Ian Wright’s statement.

Wright claims that he does not want to see Spurs relegated to the Championship, telling Stick to Football: “I wouldn’t want to see Tottenham go down.”

Bale responded by saying: “Arsenal, as much as they hate Tottenham, they need it for the rivalry for the Premier League.”

Based on Arsenal’s 4-1 win, can Igor Tudor stop Tottenham from suffering relegation?

Losing Tottenham would also be bad, given the Gunners’ impressive recent record against them, having failed to lose against them since 2022.

Eberechi Eze would also be gutted to see Spurs drop, having scored five goals in two matches against the team he almost joined back in the summer.

This evening, Tottenham face a crucial next game against Crystal Palace and desperately need to win to give them breathing room in their bid for survival.

Arsenal could play a key role in Spurs’ survival chances when they travel away to the London Stadium on May 9 for the third-to-final game of the season.

For Arsenal fans, losing the North London derby would be a big miss, but the majority would surely revel in seeing Spurs face the drop.
