Gary Lineker on Viktor Gyokeres’ new role at Arsenal
Gary Lineker believes Mikel Arteta has taken Viktor Gyokeres out of Arsenal’s starting lineup and is using him as an impact sub.
Gyokeres, who is very popular at Arsenal, started on the bench against Sunderland, but still managed to score twice in just 30 minutes.
The former England international now thinks this could be the new way Arteta will use the Swede in order to get the most from him.
“Interesting that he is changing things around up front at the moment, Arteta. Gyokeres has sort of come out of the side,” Lineker told The Rest Is Football.
“There was also a stat that, in all competitions. He’s scored more goals than any other Premier League player since the start of this year.

“Maybe he’s more of an impact player coming on as well. You’ve got Havertz, obviously, he’s a different kind of player than you’ve got Jesus, who looks to get behind.”
Gyokeres will now be hoping to start the Gunners’ next game away at Brentford during midweek following his two goals against Sunderland.

Alan Shearer has also been impressed by Arsenal’s array of attacking options and particularly the versatility of Kai Havertz.
When asked about whether Havertz is a ‘classy player’, he added: “Yeah, he is. He’s a very good footballer, isn’t he? Technically excellent.
“So they’ve got some really interesting options. I think Gyokeres is on eight Premier League goals now. So, yeah, they’re very, very strong, and it’s looking incredibly good for Arsenal.”
