Gary Lineker has noticed a ‘strange habit’ Aaron Ramsdale has during Arsenal’s 2-1 Premier League win against Brentford.

The England international returned to Mikel Arteta’s starting XI with David Raya unavailable for selection, with Ramsdale enduring a game of two halves between the sticks.

The 25-year-old was at fault for Brentford getting back into the game with a poor clearances, though Ramsdale redeemed himself in the second half with a string of fine saves as Arsenal scored late on to win.

And speaking on the Rest is Football, Lineker noted that Ramsdale has a strange habit of taking a step back before clearing the ball, the exact act that resulted in the Arsenal keeper letting Brentford score.

Indeed, it’s an act that is seen amongst children in their football development, and Lineker noticed that Ramsdale still does this despite having the power to clear the ball up the pitch without such a step.

The pundit said when talking about Ramsdale’s performance for Arsenal on Saturday against Brentford: “I felt a bit for Ramsdale at halftime.

“He’s got this slightly strange habit of when he goes to clear the ball where he needs to take a slight step back every time, like little kids do when they first learn to kick a ball long, I’m exaggerating of course, but he has the tendency to do that.”

Ramsdale’s small habit might have conceded a goal for Arsenal on Saturday, yet there’s no denying that the former Sheffield United star earned his redemption arch later on in the game.

Sensational saves from Ivan Toney and Nathan Collins kept Arsenal in the game against Brentford, with Kai Havertz securing the winning goal late on for the Gunners.

And had it not been for Ramsdale, there’s a good chance that Arsenal would have dropped points in their bid for the Premier League title, something the 25-year-old keeper will want to get his hands on this season.
