Arsenal’s recent frustrations grew further as their stalemate with Nottingham Forest all but ended any flickering hope of the Premier League title.

Mikel Arteta’s side played well throughout the game with William Saliba and Ethan Nwaneri excelling in the Arsenal player ratings.

Arsenal fans were impressed with Jorginho during the draw with Forest but the efforts were not enough to find a breakthrough and the all important three points.

It leaves just the Champions League as any realistic hope of silverware and even that is a competition Arsenal have found notoriously difficult. Gary Neville has been discussing the Gunners shortcomings and has highlighted one player in particular who could have transformed Arsenal this season.

Gary Neville reveals player who could have transformed Arsenal this season

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, pundit Neville has slammed Arsenal’s lack of recruitment in forward areas and highlighted one former Gunner that could have transformed their season.

Neville stated: “I’m not talking about signing a player that scores 40 goals a season for Arsenal, I’m talking about if you had a Giroud.

“I know Giroud, not now, but if you’re talking about a Giroud type player who can play up there as a striker, bring people into play that was a focal point for the team, they’d completely transform the rest of them anyway.”

The former Manchester United defender went on to place the blame firmly at the feet of the Gunners hierarchy.

Neville explained: “If you’re a competent recruitment department, you can’t leave yourself without a striker as backup for Havertz, you can’t.”

Arsenal’s current style is tailored for Olivier Giroud

The criticism that many supporters had during Olivier Giroud’s time at Arsenal was that he wasn’t provided with the right service – crosses into the box.

In Arteta’s current system, crosses from wide areas and set pieces are a major part of Arsenal’s attacking threat and someone like Giroud would certainly thrive from the deliveries into the box.

The French striker scored 105 goals in 253 games for the club and Giroud recently backed Arteta by hitting out at critics of the current Arsenal boss.

You get the feeling that should Giroud have been playing in this current Arsenal side, his impressive tally of 105 Gunners goals would have risen even higher.
