Arsenal’s season is done, and all the focus will now be on the World Cup.

All the players have joined up with their national teams, and preparations for the biggest competition in world football are fully underway.

On Saturday night, Germany were in action against the United States, and Julian Nagelsmann handed Kai Havertz a start.

The Arsenal star didn’t take long to impress.

German media hail ‘best player on the pitch’ Kai Havertz

Havertz had a very difficult season at Arsenal.

The former Chelsea man spent a large part of the campaign out on the sidelines due to injuries. He had a couple of setbacks as well, which made it all the more difficult.

However, Havertz finished the season strongly and even scored in the Champions League final. He has now carried that form to the international stage.

The Arsenal number 29 opened the scoring inside two minutes and then assisted Leroy Sane’s winner in the second half.

It was a fine performance from Havertz, and his country’s press are impressed too.

Focus gave him a 2/5 rating, where a lower score is a higher rating, and wrote: “His offensive actions are well-founded. His 22nd goal was the third by head. In the 2-1 victory, the Arsenal man skillfully laid the ball off to Sane.”

Spox gave him a 1.5/5 grade and said: “Havertz was still missing because of his participation in the Champions League final against Finland.

“Against the USA, he returned to the starting eleven for his (strong) representative Deniz Undav – and scored with a header to give Germany the lead after less than two minutes.

“Shortly afterwards, he netted again, but the goal rightly didn’t count because the ball had been just out of bounds.

“Sane’s goal provided Havertz with a strong assist. Overall, Havertz was agile, often moving into midfield and onto the wings. The only shining German.”

Finally, Express in Germany gave him a 2/5 score and said: “He was rested after the Champions League final against Finland, but now he was allowed to play in place of Deniz Undav, who was injured during the week.

“He was there in the second minute and scored to give the lead after a header. He cleverly pulled away, but also benefited from adventurous behaviour on the US defensive.

“As a centre forward who travels a lot with clever runs, he also provided the assist for Sané’s goal to make it 2:1. Best German player on the pitch.”
