Former Arsenal hero Kevin Campbell has now claimed that Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice are two players who should eventually retire at the club.

Rice and Saka are two of Arsenal and England’s most important players, and are both incredibly popular amongst the Arsenal fanbase.

Whilst Rice joined for a club-record fee this summer, Saka came through the academy at Arsenal from a young age, and both are on long-term contracts at the Emirates.

Campbell has now claimed that their status as England stars and their importance to the club means that they are two players above anyone else, who the club can never let go.

Rice and Saka should retire at Arsenal

Speaking on the Highbury Squad Podcast, Campbell stated that whilst Arsenal may eventually lose other players, Rice and Saka should be two who spend the rest of their careers at the club.

“If we’re serious, both of them should be retiring at Arsenal,” he stated of Rice and Saka.

“A lot of these players we have now, we may lose at some stage because they’re foreign or whatever, I get it.

“But the mainstays who are British, they should be only playing for one team and that’s Arsenal from here on out, 100%.”

Since Mikel Arteta himself retired at the club, Arsenal have not had many key stars finish their careers off at the club in recent years.

Players who many thought would stay for a very long time either moved on, in the cases of Cesc Fabregas and Aaron Ramsey, or suffered from injuries and drop-offs in form like Hector Bellerin and Jack Wilshere.

Tony Adams was an England star and Arsenal captain who retired at the club having spent his whole career there, and there has not been another like him since.

Should Saka avoid injury and maintain his high level for years to come, he may be the best hope of Arsenal having another one-club man coming from the academy.

Dennis Bergkamp retired at Arsenal after spending over 10 years at the club following a high-profile move, and this is the path Rice could look to emulate. The midfielder has been sensational since his arrival from West Ham, and is already a key leader in the squad.

As long as Arsenal aim to stay competitive at the very top, they will hope to keep hold of their best players, and Rice and Saka are two of the very best at the club right now.
