Arsenal legend David Seaman has revealed he’d take Gabriel Jesus over one Liverpool attacker ‘all day long’ ahead of Saturday night’s top-of-the-table clash.

The Gunners travel to Anfield for a festive fixture to dictate which side will be top at Christmas. After 17 matches in the Premier League, Arsenal have a one-point advantage over Liverpool and Aston Villa.

Two of the best attacks in the league will go head-to-head with Arsenal fifth in the league standings for goals scored (35) and Liverpool joint third with Newcastle (36).

On their day, Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp’s sides can score goals for fun, but both share parallels in the striker position.

Throughout this campaign, Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez and Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus have struggled to put the ball in the back of the net.

While Nunez has scored four goals in the top flight, Jesus has only netted twice with former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman providing his view on who he believes is the better striker.

Seaman prefers Gabriel Jesus over Darwin Nunez

The two strikers have come under severe scrutiny for their finishing this season.

They’re prone to squandering chances to score but Seaman still believes Jesus is a better finisher than the Uruguayan.

Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, he said: “For me Jesus is a more natural finisher than Nunez and Hojlund but their tallies should be a lot better. I would take Jesus over Nunez all day long.”

Surprisingly, despite scoring more goals than the Brazilian, Seaman believes that the Gunners star is a better finisher than Nunez and the statistics underscore that statement.

Gabriel Jesus is more clinical than Darwin Nunez

It’s a well-known fact among Arsenal supporters that Jesus isn’t the most clinical striker on the planet and perhaps lacks that cutting edge to take him to the next level.

However, he has still posted the metrics to suggest he’s more ruthless at taking his chances than the Liverpool ace.

In the Premier League this term, only Erling Haaland (17) has missed more big chances than Nunez (15).

This staggering statistic demonstrates that the Reds create a lot of opportunities for their star striker, but he’s prone to losing his composure at the most vital points.

For comparison, Jesus is down in 44th position for big chances missed (3) and although this won’t change supporters’ views on the Brazilian, it does provide some weight to Seaman’s argument.

Jesus also has a decent record against Liverpool with six goals and four assists in 14 appearances, including at least a goal contribution in each of his last six meetings.

Arteta will need his 26-year-old to step up once more to keep them top of the league.
