It looks like the saga involving Arsenal and Mesut Ozil is all-but over, with reports and Twitter activity over the course of Saturday suggesting a move to Fenerbahce is now imminent.
David Ornstein of The Athletic set the ball rolling in the morning with a report claiming Arsenal and Ozil have reached an agreement in principle to terminate the player’s contract.
The report also claimed that the 32-year-old was set to travel this weekend to complete a move to Fenerbahce after a deal was agreed with the Turkish club.
Ozil was scheduled to earn around £7 million between now and the end of his contract in June, but a deal has been reached in principle for an early termination, added Ornstein.
On Saturday afternoon, Fenerbahce posted a tweet featuring song lyrics from which roughly translate to “come let us be night with day”, along with an hourglass:
To which Ozil replied with heart emojis in the colours of Fener, plus an hourglass:
Surely at this point, all that awaits are announcements from both clubs to confirm the departure / acquisition of Ozil.
