Arsenal’s hopes of winning the Premier League title will depend on some help elsewhere, with Liverpool currently running away with the division.

The Gunners have struggled at times with stringing together results, while the Reds have been professional in dispatching games in an effective manner.

While six points currently separate the two teams, Liverpool hold a game in hand over Arsenal, which could extend the gap to nine points.

That would be a difficult number to bridge the gap to, albeit not totally insurmountable for Mikel Arteta.

While it requires the North London outfit to find some form, they will also need a few favours from other teams in the Premier League.

That could start with an old friend of Arteta’s, who could help out in the title race.

David Moyes could shake up the Premier League title race in Everton vs Liverpool Merseyside Derby

As far as the season goes for Liverpool, it’s been a rather professional approach to waltzing their way to the Premier League title.

Arne Slot has brought calm to a club that was back to questioning their identity following the exit of an iconic figure in Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds could see the boat slightly rocked though, with the Merseyside Derby coming up very soon.

Everton welcome Liverpool to the final meeting between the two clubs at Goodison Park before it is left for the new stadium.

The Toffees have seen a bit of a resurgence in form, pulling themselves away from the relegation zone in recent weeks.

A lot of that has coincided with the return of David Moyes, who has brought some stability back to the club after the dismissal of Sean Dyche.

It was a move many years in the making, with the Scottish head coach looking to pick up another win on Wednesday night in an occasion he knows plenty about.

At the same time, he’d be doing a former player of his in Arteta a huge favour.

What Mikel Arteta has said about David Moyes

Arteta played under Moyes for six years, featuring for Everton from 2005 until 2011 – when he went on to join Arsenal.

The midfielder seemingly took plenty from his old boss that he took into management, not least when it comes to setting up a defence.

In the past, Arteta has heaped praise on Moyes, stating back in 2023: “It’s more than respect, I think it’s admiration [for Moyes].

“I loved playing under him. I would have gone through a brick wall for him when he was my manager, as everybody would in that squad.

“[He’s] a really good coach, exceptional at managing the group and dealing with individuals, and he’s a very special person, very trustworthy, and a man who honours his word. He always did it and he’s someone I learnt a lot from.

“He asked me to play in positions that I’ve never played in my life. The way he challenged me, but at the same time the way he gave me support, love and care – it was the right balance and it’s what I needed, and he got the best out of me. So, he was really, really helpful.”

Now, almost 20 years on from when Moyes first signed Arteta, the Everton boss could do him another favour, this time in the Premier League title race.
