Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is under increasing pressure to win big trophies.
The Spaniard took charge of the Gunners back in December 2019, after Unai Emery was shown the door. He won the FA Cup and Community Shield soon after, thus raising the expectation levels.
Arteta has since won just one more Community Shield and has come close to winning the Premier League title for three seasons in a row.
Arsenal fans are desperate to get over the line this season, but what happens if they don’t? Alan Shearer has had his say.
How concerned are you that Arsenal are ‘bottling it’ again?
Alan Shearer says Mikel Arteta ‘might not be at Arsenal’ if they fail to win the Premier League again
Mikel Arteta is arguably the most scrutinised manager in the Premier League.
Almost everything the Arsenal boss does makes the headlines, and he is often portrayed in a negative light by some pundits.
That has led to a lot of criticism, not just from rival fans but also from Arsenal supporters, with some even calling for his job if he ends this season without the Premier League or Champions League titles.
Shearer, who knows what it takes to win the league title, has now suggested that Arteta could well get sacked if he doesn’t end the trophy drought.
Speaking ahead of the North London Derby on the Rest is Football podcast, he said: “If he doesn’t win the league, he might not be at Arsenal, because after the chances they’ve had to win it, they’ve been second, haven’t they?
“So, with what they spent and the players they’ve got and the position they are still in, they have to win it!”
Discuss Mikel Arteta’s future if Arsenal do NOT win the Premier League
Should Arsenal sack Mikel Arteta if he fails to win the 2025/26 Premier League title?
It’s easy for some fans to say Arteta deserves to be sacked if Arsenal don’t win the Premier League title, but the reality is much more difficult.
Yes, the Gunners failing to lift the title would be seen as a failure, considering the money they have spent and the position they have been in for large parts of the season.
But is there a better manager out there who can come in and immediately guarantee success?

Thomas Tuchel has extended his contract with England, and Carlo Ancelotti is set to do the same with Brazil. Luis Enrique is still under contract at PSG, which leaves just Xabi Alonso among the big names.
The Spaniard’s spell at Real Madrid was a disaster, and Arteta has beaten him already, albeit in a friendly. So, he isn’t guaranteed to bring success either.
We think Arteta should keep his job even if Arsenal don’t win anything this season. But if the same repeats in 2026/27, he may have to go.
