'Here we go': Some Arsenal fans think they could sign reported target after club announcement

Arsenal fans on social media believe the club could be about to sign Hibernian teenager Josh Doig following an announcement from the Gunners.

The Edinburgh-based club announced on their official website that they will be facing off against Arsenal this summer in a pre-season friendly, with Mikel Arteta’s side also due to play Steven Gerrard’s Rangers four days after their fixture with Hibs.

With the pandemic still restricting international travel, it makes sense as to why Arsenal would head north of the border for their pre-season games, especially with both Hibernian and Rangers having exceptional campaign’s in the Scottish Premiership, with the latter winning the title and going unbeaten in the process.

Yet it is the fixture against Hibs that Arsenal fans on social media are interested in, as report that the Gunners are interested in 18-year-old left-back Doig, who has been a star player for the Easter Road club this season, with the teenager winning the SFWA Young Player of the Year award for his consistent performances.

Arsenal are in need of an extra left-back this summer with Kieren Tierney likely to be the club’s only natural first-team player in the position for next season, and for supporters on social media, this pre-season friendly announcement against Hibs seemed to hint that Doig could be on his way to the Emirates during the transfer window.

The Scottish Daily Mail report via Not The Old Firm that Doig could be available this summer for as little as £1.2m, with Manchester City, Leeds United and Leicester City also reportedly interested in the teenage defender.
