Spain are World Cup winners once again after a goal from Ferran Torres ensured Lionel Messi’s Argentina failed to make it two in a row.
Torres’ late strike in extra-time was enough for the Spaniards and in the end, it was a more than deserved win for the European champions.
Arsenal had a number of particular interests in the game, with Mikel Merino, David Raya, and Martin Zubimendi all involved in the Spain squad.
Merino and Zubimendi both came off the bench, while Raya had to be content to sit and watch.
However, the winning goal from Ferran Torres will have perked some Arsenal fans’ interest, given the club have tracked the former Man City man for some time now.

Arsenal’s interest in Ferran Torres proven right as he wins the World Cup for Spain
Ferran Torres has been a star for Barcelona and Spain ever since he moved away from Man City.
Clearly, this is a player who has improved over time and after scoring a winning goal in a World Cup final, he’s shown he can do it on the biggest of stages.
For Arsenal, it’s a case of what might have been when it comes to Torres after their long-term interest in the forward.
Back in 2022, Arsenal registered an initial interest and even made a bid of around £30m late in the transfer window before Barcelona turned it down after a change of heart.
Since then, Torres has scored another 57 goals for the Catalan giants and proven himself as a key player for them over the last four seasons.
Interestingly though, Arsenal’s interest in Torres remains. As recent as the summer window opening this year, the Gunners have been linked with another move for Torres.
If it’s something the Gunners do pursue once again, then Torres has just shown he’s up to the task of producing in big moments if required.
