Viktor Gyokeres has firmly dislodged Gabriel Jesus as Arsenal’s main striker but that doesn’t mean the duo aren’t helping each other out.
Jesus has found himself playing second fiddle to Gyokeres this season but the pair remain a key element of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal project.
With Gyokeres now settled in and scoring, he is impressing people. And according to Jesus, it’s Gyokeres’ power that separates him.
Who was better – prime Thierry Henry or prime Neymar?
Gabriel Jesus admits he’d love to have the power that Viktor Gyokeres has
Gyokeres has certainly grown into the season with Arsenal and is very much entrenched as the top striker in the current squad.

In fact, he’s so impressive, that Jesus has admitted he’d love to take his power to improve to his own game.
“I keep saying to him, sometimes I say when we are doing like a a finishing drill and I say ‘oh if I have his power to shoot maybe my game goes to a you know another level’ just joking with each other and he says ‘oh if I have your quality as well’ so yeah he’s a good striker, amazing,” Jesus told The Athletic.
Comparing Viktor Gyokeres’ first Arsenal season with Gabriel Jesus’ first season
It’s taken some time for Gyokeres to get going but everyone can see just how important he is to the team.
Gyokeres’ impressive frame and ability to get involved in the ‘dirty work’ with defenders has helped Arsenal go to another level.
In terms of goals, he’s very much on par with Jesus in terms of their first seasons at The Emirates.
Jesus scored 11 times and assisted another six in his debut season with the Gunners, with Gyokeres sitting on 11 himself right now, albeit with zero assists.
| Viktor Gyokeres 25/26 | Gabriel Jesus 22/23 | |
| Appearances | 29 | 26 |
| Goals | 11 | 11 |
| Assists | 0 | 6 |
| xG | 9.35 | 14.2 |
Still, come the end of the season, you’d like to think Gyokeres will have surpassed that. There’s also a chance for him to score in some big games as well, with Arsenal still in all four competitions.
Both Jesus and Gyokeres have proven good signings by Mikel Arteta. Yes, they have different strengths and weaknesses but ultimately, they’ve done the job they were bought for.
The key now is to get over the line and win those trophies. Only then will the duo be considered a true success.
