Arsenal are looking to push ahead with a deal to bring Bruno Guimaraes to the club as a new midfielder this summer.
Guimaraes has quickly emerged as target number one in recent days.
Currently with Brazil at the World Cup, Guimaraes has been one of the standout players in England for a number of seasons now.
With Arsenal obviously keen, many will now expect this deal to get done, albeit Newcastle remain steadfast in their approach that he isn’t for sale.
Still, should Guimaraes make the move, then it means Arsenal’s midfield gets a shake up.
And worryingly for Martin Zubimendi, Guimaraes could well take his place.

Arsenal’s opinion on Bruno Guimaraes’ position is bad news for Zubimendi
It is clear that Arsenal are determined to add a midfielder of real quality to the ranks this summer.
Alongside Guimaraes, the Gunners also like his Newcastle teammate, Sandro Tonali.
However, with the focus on the Brazilian right now, it’s worth considering just where he might fit into this current Arsenal side.
Indeed, looking back at some past comments from David Ornstein on Arsenal’s interest in Guimaraes, it could be Martin Zubimendi who misses out.
“Clearly a decision needs to be taken on that decision, some backup in wide areas, there’s a big decision on Declan Rice’s position, is he going to be a number eight or a number six?” Ornstein said previously.
“If he is going to be a number eight then they would recruit a number six, someone like Zubimendi for example, Bruno Guimaraes is also viewed by Arsenal and others in football as a six rather than an eight.”

As we know, Arsenal went on to sign Zubimendi that summer anyway.
But with the same management, coaching, and recruitment team still in place now, it seems that Zubimendi might not have ticked all the boxes Arsenal want.
Clearly, Guimaraes is the favoured option and while the Gunners spent around £60m on Zubimendi last summer, he might have to make do with playing second fiddle this coming season.
