How Man City fans reacted when Nicolas Jover joined Arsenal, they’ve been proven completely wrong

Arsenal have recruited heavily from Manchester City in recent years, and this stretches beyond signing players for the first-team squad.

Mikel Arteta returned to Arsenal to become manager in 2019, after several years at Man City as Pep Guardiola’s assistant.

This eventually led him to sign Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko directly from City, with the pair helping elevate Arsenal into title-challengers.

Arteta has also signed Raheem Sterling, with the pair previously working together at the Etihad Stadium, and he was greeted by several familiar faces when he arrived at Arsenal.

Not only did Sterling reunite with Jesus and Zinchenko, as well as his former Chelsea and England teammates, but he has now linked up with set-piece coach Nicolas Jover, who has been earning rave reviews.

Jover joined Arsenal from Man City in 2021, and he has helped Arteta make his side one of the best at set-pieces in the whole of Europe.

Not many would have expected a once soft Arsenal team to become so robust at dead-ball situations, and Man City fans certainly did not expect Jover to have such an impact when he traded clubs in 2021.

Man City fans criticised Nicolas Jover as he moved to Arsenal

When news emerged of Jover’s departure from Man City to join Arsenal, City fans took to X to express their delight.

“Oh noooo maybe we will score from a corner now,” one fan sarcastically posted.

“Lol Mr Short corners,” one City fan stated, negatively highlighting the creative routines Jover had instilled in the side.

“Good luck with corners Arsenal,” another claimed.

“Can’t have been that much of a specialist, we’re literally the worst team I’ve ever seen in my life at set pieces,” a fan responded.

“We weren’t that brilliant for set pieces anyway. Sign someone better,” another added.

“Bout time.. can’t remember the last time we beat the first man from a corner! Great News,” a fan remarkably claimed.

Nicolas Jover has proven Man City fans wrong at Arsenal

Jover was clearly not the problem when it came to Man City’s set-pieces during his time there, as Arsenal have been nothing short of sensational in both attacking and defensive situations, with the Frenchman playing a big part.

Whilst fans may not have been able to see his influence, Jover was highly rated internally at Man City, and it was recently reported that his move caused bad blood between the two clubs.

Jover does have more physically dominant players to work with at Arsenal, such as Gabriel Magalhaes and Kai Havertz, whilst Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice have proven to be deadly when it comes to their deliveries from free-kicks and corners.

Jover’s move was definitely City’s loss and Arsenal’s gain, and he will now hope that he can help Arteta beat their former employers to the Premier League title.
