Following a shock 2-1 defeat at home to Bournemouth, Mikel Arteta’s team now must respond, with two massive games.

Speaking ahead of Sporting and Man City, Henry has been discussing the importance of this week in Arsenal’s season.

Thierry Henry urges Arsenal to make a statement vs Man City

Thierry Henry says if he were still playing for Arsenal, he would be desperate to produce a statement performance against Manchester City.

However, he believes that City and Bournemouth have already shown how to beat this Arsenal team by being really aggressive in the press.

The Gunners struggled with the press of both City and Bournemouth, and now Sporting know how they can cause them big issues.

Henry told CBS Sports: “Yeah, it is, and if you’re Sporting, if you see the way Man City played Arsenal and the way Bournemouth played Arsenal at the weekend, they went on to put pressure into a 4-2-4 early doors. Arsenal did not have an answer for how to step out from that.

“So I don’t know what Sporting is going to do tomorrow, but yes, it is very important for The Arsenal to be able to win and make sure they can prepare for the game (versus Man City) we’re all waiting for to see what time it is.

“For a long time, I wasn’t even focusing on Bournemouth, even before Bournemouth winning, I was focusing on that. I wanted this match.

“If I were playing, I would want to play at City. Make my statement. You want to make a statement. You have an opportunity to do that. I’m not saying it’s going to be easy, but that’s what I’m waiting for.”

The Gunners need to face this week with a different mentality from the one which saw them played off the park against Bournemouth.

Arsenal need to show some bottle, having looked so worried every time they were on the ball at home to the Cherries.

The issue is, Arsenal no longer has players with the mentality of Henry, and it would be a real shock if they were to go and produce a statement.
