‘I’m sacked’… Mikel Arteta gives hilarious response when asked if he will repeat Arsenal masterstroke

Arsenal are struggling with injuries and poor form right now, and need some inspiration to kick-start their season.

Mikel Arteta’s side have won just two of their last six games across all competitions, and are struggling for creativity.

There are shades of Arsenal’s poor run in December last year, in which they lost three consecutive games against West Ham, Fulham and Liverpool.

Arsenal looked out of ideas and out of the title race, but the unexpected happened.

Arteta took his squad to Dubai on a mid-season team-bonding trip, and they came back recharged, before then winning 16 of their next 18 league games, and another trip could perhaps have the same impact.

Mikel Arteta asked if Arsenal will take another Dubai trip to fix form

In his press conference ahead of Arsenal’s trip to face Chelsea, Arteta was asked whether his side would take another trip to Dubai to fix their form again, but he admitted that results are far from guaranteed.

“We don’t know where that clicked,” Arteta replied.

“If instead of going to Dubai, I would have given a week off and you see the team in Las Vegas for one week – smashing the night. We come back the following week and we lose two games in a row? I’m in my house, I’m sacked!

“If they go to Las Vegas, do that and we win three in a row, you’d be telling me now ‘send the boys to Las Vegas because they’re going to kill it afterwards!'”

How Arsenal’s trip to Dubai helped save their season

Arsenal’s mid-season trip to Dubai in January seemed to work miracles on the squad, and Arteta has offered some explanation as to why it worked so well.

“I think it helped. Being in the sun, in contact with nature, getting away for a week. It was so intense at Christmas and we need it,” he added.

“We don’t have that [extended break]. We will do something different in a way. Every day we are trying to put something that helps the mood, the energy, the relief in the team, on the players to be the best versions of themselves.

“That’s what we try every single day, without exceptions.”

Arteta will hope that his squad can muster up a win against Chelsea before the international break, which could provide a good opportunity for his squad to rest and regroup before a hectic winter schedule.
