‘Immense’ striker says he’s actually so happy he left Arsenal, it was a ‘blessing’

Arsenal have made a few missteps over the years when it comes to releasing youth players.

Indeed, Eberechi Eze was released by Arsenal at a young age, and that has come back to bite the Gunners.

Arsenal now want to re-sign Eze for a huge fee, so that decision could ultimately cost the Gunners millions.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane was released by Arsenal as a youngster too before becoming a superstar at Tottenham.

Will Lankshear is another striker who could be on that same path.

Lankshear was released by Arsenal as a young player, and now, he’s playing for Tottenham.

Speaking to The Athletic, Lankshear has been discussing his career path to date, and he says that while he found it difficult at the time, he’s now glad he left Arsenal, claiming that it was a blessing that he was let go at a young age as it allowed him to mature.

Will Lankshear is glad he left Arsenal

Lankshear spoke about being released by Arsenal.

The striker says he thinks it was a blessing that he was released by the Gunners as he matured and grew up after being let go.

Lankshear was described as ‘immense’ by Tony Mowbray at West Brom last season, and now, he’s hoping to kick on at Spurs.

“I was let go by Arsenal and it was a really difficult time for me at that stage of growing up,” Lankshear said.

“But it was a blessing because it really matured me. I grew up fast and it was the best thing for me. I was with Arsenal for nine years and they helped me to develop but I would like nothing more than to score against them and win.”

Lankshear is hoping to make a breakthrough at Tottenham this season, and, as he says, he wants to score against Arsenal in pre-season.

The 20-year-old is a highly rated prospect at Spurs, and he does have a fantastic record for the U21s.

Of course, whether or not that will translate into senior football remains to be seen, but if Lankshear does become a star, Arsenal may well live to regret letting the forward go.

Who knows? Perhaps Lankshear could become the next Harry Kane at Spurs.
