Former Premier League midfielder and Germany international Dietmar Hamann has had a real go at Schalke star Shkodran Mustafi – less than two months after Arsenal terminated his contract.
The German defender was good for the Gunners at times but most supporters will only remember his unfortunate moments in an Arsenal shirt.
Many fans were glad to see the back of Mustafi in January. Schalke snapped him up on a free transfer hoping that the German’s experience would help them get out of the massive hole they were in.

Sadly, his arrival only made things go from bad to worse. Mustafi reportedly played a key part in getting Christian Gross sacked, and the former Schalke boss even admitted that he wouldn’t have signed him if he knew it was going to turn out this way. (Read here)
Hamann has now jumped on that train as well. He has lashed out at Mustafi’s performance in Schalke’s latest defeat in the Bundesliga and claimed that he is the reason behind every goal the Royal Blues have conceded since his arrival.
Hamann: There is a reason why Arsenal didn’t use Mustafi
He told Sky Austria: “What these players allow themselves is a shame for this traditional club.

“He (Mustafi) comes, then plays a role in the change of coach and is involved in every goal conceded. This is a player who has not played for Arsenal for a year and there is a reason. The players suffer from excessive self-confidence. They think that they are better than they really are.”
Mustafi tried to dribble his way out of his own box and lost possession. Wolfsburg scored and it will now take something much bigger than a miracle for Schalke to stay up in the Bundesliga this season.
Mikel Arteta hinted on multiple occasions last year that there were people at the club who were bad for the atmosphere. Many felt that it was Mesut Ozil, but considering everything that has been happening at Schalke, Mustafi might have been the guy causing trouble at Arsenal as well.
