When the manager of your greatest rival starts commenting about your own transfer policy, you know that there is something either very big or very risky about to unfold. So it is that most of the column inches on the back pages of the tabloids are exercised by Wenger’s position over his two players. So Arsene who is no stranger to being made to look foolish by his own utterances decides to say. The Daily Express reports
“If Fabregas and Nasri leave, you cannot pretend you are a big club. Nasri stays”
I wonder what Robin van Persie makes of that?
“Why not sign a player for big money? These days proper players cost money. It needs to be seen – a few signings are more than welcome.
“Every team is buying quality players so, hopefully, we will do the same.
“You need investment to keep up. Manchester City are buying loads of good players, Liverpool are doing it now, Manchester United have been doing it for years.”
Thanks Robin, well at least he is no shrinking violet and seriously, does anyone now understand what is the strategy of Arsene Wenger?
Before it was sell Fabregas for the best price and keep Nasri, now it seems that he sees the only way forward is to keep the pair, in an effort to have the inspiration of Fabregas and the guile and swift feet of Nasri. I am totally in agreement with that strategy, providing Nasri signs his contract extension before the season restarts. How can he be happy to be at Arsenal yet deprive us of a transfer fee when he leaves? On word and word only, GREED. I the receiving club saves £20 million on having to buy Nasri, then imagine giving him his wage demands of £5 million per year is easily sorted. Why do I see Flamini mark II written all over this?
But to cheer you all up and especially for those Gooners who feel that Arsene is too pre-occupied with youth prospects The Sun reveals:
“ARSENAL are ready to offer £2million for Mexico whizkid Carlos Fierro.”
Apparently this player was voted third top star at the World Under 17 Championships. Carlos who? Well if anyone really knows what this Hernandez mark II is about , then let me know. Apparently the plan is to snap up the youngster and loan him back to his home club.
But finally coming back to Alex Fungusface’s taunts at Arsene Wenger. He claims that Nasri has agreed to go elsewhere and wonders what his Board of Directors might think of Nasri walking on a free next year. Yep missing out on £20 million of transfer fees, won’t make the Fair Play stats look good, if we need to buy a new player to replace Nasri next year. For once I am in agreement with SAF. Which for someone I detest avidly I find rather worrying…
