‘It’s sad’: Sam Allardyce’s big criticism of Morgan Rogers to Arsenal is nothing to concern Gunners fans

Morgan Rogers to Arsenal is looking like being closer to being done with each passing day but Sam Allardyce has raised concerns over the deal.

Rogers is edging nearer to a £100m move to The Emirates and talks are expected to continue into next week to complete a deal.

For Aston Villa, though, it means losing yet another big player thanks to finances and with Ezri Konsa also wanted at Arsenal, it could be a tough summer for the Europa League winners.

Indeed, looking at it from that point of view, former England boss Sam Allardyce has criticised the transfer in general.

Sam Allardyce unhappy with Morgan Rogers to Arsenal

Over the course of the years we’ve always seen the bigger clubs go out and sign the big players. That’s just how football has always worked.

However, current financial rules are meaning more and more clubs looking to close the gap on those at the top are being hindered and ultimately, being forced to sell.

And for Allardyce, that’s something that has to stop.

“I think he’s slightly better than Eze. He’s proven it this year,” Allardyce said.

“The one thing that, I listen to Gabby Agbonlahor, who’s on TalkSport. He’s sick to death of Aston Villa having to sell their best players. You know, I mean, Aston Villa, what they’ve achieved, and now they’re having to be forced again to sell their best player. How’s that looking after the league or looking after the entertainment value?

“It’s sad. But, you know, maybe it might stop one day.”

Arsenal fans will not care one bit about Aston Villa

Allardyce might have a point here but at the end of the day, what Villa do with their finances is nothing to do with Arsenal or their fans.

The signing of Morgan Rogers makes sense on every level for the Gunners while the addition of Konsa will also add depth at the back if that gets done.

Ultimately, it isn’t Arsenal’s fault or responsibility to ensure that Villa are set financially.

Furthermore, it’s not like Villa are not allowed to do anything at all. They have just sold Youri Tielemans for £35m and replaced him with Joao Gomes for £38m.

Football is a business and it always has been. At this moment in time, it’s simply Arsenal’s turn to be able to spend big.
