Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere will take charge of Norwich City for the remaining two Championship games of the season.

Norwich are languishing in mid-table in England’s second division, after enduring a disappointing campaign.

The Canaries have subsequently decided to part ways with head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup, while assistant manager Glen Riddersholm has also left his post.

Wilshere was appointed as a Norwich coach earlier this season, and will now oversee the Norfolk club’s final two matches of the campaign against Middlesbrough and Cardiff.

Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere named Norwich City interim manager

Aaron Ramsey took charge of Cardiff City last week, with the ex-Arsenal star handed the role of interim player-manager until the end of the season.

The Welshman has inherited a mess, and he now has two games to save his boyhood club from relegation to League One.

Wilshere is set to replicate the job of his former teammate, although he comes into the role in a more serene environment.

The Carrow Road team have very little to play for in their final two matches, but Wilshere will no doubt be fired up to garner two positive results, in what is essentially an audition for the permanent job.

Wilshere will take on Ramsey on the final day of the Championship season.

The duo of former Gunners stars join another ex-Arsenal player from the 2010s era in the coaching sphere, with Cesc Fabregas currently overseeing the Como revolution in Italy.

Arsene Wenger tipped Jack Wilshere to manage Arsenal

Since being forced into a premature retirement, Wilshere has been intent on pursuing a career in coaching.

The talented footballer immediately stepped into the managerial realm, taking charge of Arsenal’s under-18s.

Enjoying a successful stint at Hale End, Wilshere is cited as having played a key role in the development of the likes of Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Speaking in 2016, the Arsenal man’s mentor, Arsene Wenger, tipped the Englishman to manage Arsenal one day.

“Certainly one day he will be in my [manger’s] seat,” Wenger said, via Sky Sports.

“He has a real football brain and understands football. You know really, it’s in his genes. I see him in the future at this club of course. He will spend his life in football, he is a football man.

“He has an eye on everybody, it’s in him. You have that or you haven’t got it, but he is a real football man.”
