Despite their recent wobble in form, Arteta’s former teammate has been speaking about the Arsenal boss and why fans need to keep backing him.

Jack Wilshere is still backing Mikel Arteta at Arsenal

Jack Wilshere is still backing Mikel Arteta at Arsenal this season as the Spaniard’s coaching methods remain at the very top level.

The former Arsenal midfielder said he learned so much from working under Arteta, including how he manages to keep standards at the club so high.

Speaking to CBS Sports, Wilshere said: “Obviously, a frustrating couple of weeks because of losing the final and going out to Southampton, but yeah, I have complete faith in Mikel.

“The one thing Mikel that I learned from him I learned a lot, but the one thing that stands out a lot is how demanding he is and how he doesn’t let standards drop across the whole environment.

“I think that’s why you see a different team now than when I was there, that there is that accountability across every single part of the club, and Mikel is the reason why that’s happened.”

The Gunners face a crucial next couple of weeks with Premier League matches against Bournemouth and City, plus their second-leg clash at home to Sporting.

Jack Wilshere backs Mikel Arteta to help Max Dowman develop at Arsenal

Wilshere also thinks Arteta and his coaching staff will be perfect for helping Max Dowman’s development at Arsenal.

“He’s a top, top player (Max Dowman), with an exciting future, and in good hands with Mikel and his coaching staff,” he said.

“They understand that when players come from the academy, they are not necessarily finished, and their job is to keep developing them, and they’re doing a really good job of that.”

Right now, Arteta is carefully managing Dowman’s minutes, and the teenager seems to be responding very well to his game time at Arsenal.
