For the third time in recent years, Arsenal will be top of the Premier League on Christmas Day.
The Gunners’ win over Everton secured their spot at the top of the table, but their seat on the summit isn’t quite as secure as it was a few weeks ago.
Indeed, draws against Chelsea and Sunderland and a loss against Aston Villa represent dropped points for Arsenal, while Mikel Arteta’s side weren’t all that convincing in their recent game against Everton and Wolves.
How are YOU feeling about the title race heading into Christmas?
Speaking on Rory Jennings’ YouTube channel, Jamie Carragher has been discussing Arsenal’s title chances, and he has a worry about their chances.
Jamie Carragher not convinced by Arsenal
Carragher spoke about how he’d be feeling if he was an Arsenal fan right now.
The pundit says he’d be incredibly nervous if he was an Arsenal supporter at the minute, claiming that the Gunners are scraping by right now, winning games by just one goal and looking nervy.
“If I was an Arsenal fan now, I would be really, really nervous,” Carragher said.
“Arsenal have just started to look like the Arsenal in the last couple of weeks. The Arsenal that we’ve seen in the last few years where you understand why they get a lot of draws where they just winning games by one goal, which you need to do. Champions win games by one goal and they score last minute winners. I get that. But it just feels like,
“It feels like Arsenal playing football that you’d expect to see in March or April.
“Whereas City are just like scoring goals like they do almost playing a little bit free. And I’d really worry for Arsenal if City ever got like level points or a point above them.
“I just don’t know how not so much the players but the crowd would handle it mentally.”
Arsenal are on Premier League winning course
Carragher says that he’d be nervous if he was an Arsenal fan, but, let’s not forget, Arsenal are in a great position as we head into the second-half of the season.
Arsenal are top at Christmas, how sure are you that history won’t repeat itself?
The Gunners are top of the league, and at their current rate, they should amass enough points to surpass the average Premier League winning tally.
| Arsenal this season | Premier League winning average | |
| Points per game | 2.29 | 2.29 |
| Projected points | 87 | 87 |
Of course, whether or not Mikel Arteta’s side get over the line remains to be seen, but Arsenal should feel excited rather than nervous at the moment as they are on course to win the Premier League.
