Wayne Rooney’s comments about Arsenal have been making a lot of noise lately.
The Gunners have found themselves in a great position. They are on top of the Premier League and Champions League tables and are also on the verge of reaching the Carabao Cup final.
That has led to many people branding Arsenal as the best team in the world right now, and stats certainly back that claim.
Rooney, however, thinks his old Manchester United side were much better.

Jamie Carragher disagrees with Wayne Rooney’s ‘Manchester United would batter Arsenal’ claim
Wayne Rooney was involved in some of the best Manchester United sides in history.
The Englishman won it all with the Red Devils back in the day, and people still talk about how good his team was at the time.
On Tuesday night, former Arsenal star Theo Walcott asked Rooney how the Manchester United side of 2008 would fare against Mikel Arteta’s team.
“We’d batter them,” replied the former England captain on Amazon Prime Video Sport UK.
Jamie Carragher has now responded to that comment and claimed that no team is capable of battering this Arsenal side.
He said on The Overlap: “So, you know, when Wayne said that, ‘oh, we’d batter that team’, I don’t think anyone would batter this Arsenal team just because they’re so strong defensively.
“I don’t think you can batter them.”

Wayne Rooney has clearly forgotten what happened between Arsenal and Man United in 2008
It goes without saying that the current Arsenal team is significantly better than Arsene Wenger’s side from 2008.
Manchester United were the best team in the land then, and to be fair to Rooney, they did batter many teams at that time.
However, what the Red Devils legend has clearly forgotten is that Arsenal got the better of them that year.
Wenger’s side, which had Nicklas Bendtner leading the line and a centre-back partnership of Mikael Silvestre and William Gallas, beat United 2-1 at the Emirates in November 2008.
Manchester United couldn’t even beat that Arsenal side, so Rooney saying they would batter this current team is just a ridiculous statement. It simply will not happen.
