Aaron Ramsdale has had an incredibly tough time since he was replaced by David Raya at Arsenal.
Though Arsenal haven’t looked back since making Raya number one, it’s impossible not to sympathise with Ramsdale’s situation.
Arteta knew he had to axe Ramsdale to improve Arsenal’s options between the sticks, which unfortunately led to the Englishman’s complete change in fortune.
Since leaving N5, the 27-year-old has suffered relegation with Southampton, fallen out of the England squad and is now number two on loan at Newcastle United, but things could be about to change.

Jamie Carragher thinks Aaron Ramsdale could get a chance at Newcastle United
At St James’ Park, Nick Pope has been preferred to Ramsdale in goal, but for the first time since his transfer, the former Arsenal man was given a chance in the Premier League on matchday 11.
Pope was injured during Newcastle’s defeat to Brentford, seeing Ramsdale introduced in the 77th minute.
Pope’s injury could mean more minutes for Ramsdale, but Jamie Carragher thinks the goalkeeper could get into Eddie Howe’s good books for a different reason.
“I think Nick Pope’s a really good goalkeeper, but at times he finds it tough in certain situations, especially with the ball at his feet,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.
The pundit then predicted that Ramsdale could now replace his club and country rival, “I think it might be time now to give Ramsdale a run.”
It’s about time that things started to look up for the ex-Arsenal star, who has had a terrible year following his fall from grace at the Emirates.
Ramsdale’s record in the Premier League since leaving Arsenal
Several things impacted Ramsdale’s career at Arsenal, as the goalkeeper went from being number one in title races to being sold to Southampton.
Since his exit, it’s been a long road for the Englishman to turn things around, but momentum could finally be about to shift in his favour.
| Appearances | Goals conceded | Clean sheets | Unused substitute |
| 31 | 69 | 3 | 10 |
As seen above, some good news for Ramsdale on the pitch is long overdue, having conceded 69 Premier League goals since the 2024/25 season started.
The 27-year-old has had to wait for his turn at St James’ Park, where he’s currently on loan with an option to remain at the club if Newcastle wish to pay for his services.
